Pablo
Picasso
was
born
in
Malaga
Spain
in
1881.
His
father
an
artist
and
art
teacher
encouraged
his
talent
resulting
in
Picasso's
debut
as
an
artist
at
age
12.
In
1895
he
moved
to
Barcelona
when
his
father
was
appointed
to
the
La
Lonja
academy
where
he
became
a
student
the
next
year.
In
Barcelona
he
was
influenced
by
the
Bohemian
group.
Picasso
continued
his
art
education
in
Madrid
taking
a
painting
class
at
the
Royal
Academy
of
San
Fernando
at
the
start
of
his
“Blue
Period."
In
1904
he
moved
to
Paris
where
the
next
year
he
began
his
“Rose
Period."
In
1906
he
began
his
friendship
with
Henri
Matisse.
Throughout
his
career
Picasso
experimented
with
many
styles
and
techniques.
In
1907
he
ushered
in
the
beginning
of
Cubism.
Later
he
worked
with
collages
experimented
in
surrealism
and
created
erotic
etchings.
His
first
wife
Olga
Koklova
gave
birth
to
his
son
Paul
in
1921.
In
1935
he
separated
from
his
wife
just
prior
to
his
daughter
Maia's
birth
to
one
of
his
models.
In
1944
he
joined
the
Communist
Party.
In
1947
when
his
son
Claude
was
born
he
began
work
with
ceramics.
His
daughter
Paloma
(Spanish
for
“dove")
was
born
in
1949
the
same
year
he
completed
his
“Dove
of
Peace".
Picasso
died
in
1973
remaining
an
active
painter
almost
until
his
death.
